The Lincoln Highway

 by Amor Towles

the Choice: June 2024 I read this book for the second time. It was going to be June's Book Club selection - suggested by me. It's an adventure story of teens trying to travel along the Lincoln Highway from Nebraska to California to  find Billy and Emmett's mom. But they never manage to head West and for various brilliantly worthwhile reasons, they travel to New York City instead.

the reader in me: I love the whole story and characters and style and the way the tale flows between each character's unique point of view. 1956 brings a simpler way of life, politeness and morals that I want to believe in. Adventure is the perfect genre, often overlooked.

the critic in me: Well! I'll start with my wonderment that some of my bookclub did not like it. They said they couldn't finish it, or they hated the ending, or just not their style. OMG what is wrong with them? Yes, it's too long... but well worth the read.

the writer in me: Now that I've written one Novella, I have some ideas for my next attempt. I want to try an adventure and try at least 2 POV (keep it simple). I'll keep Cassie as the main character, but now she is interested in creating a cookbook, and her life will involve some sort of intriguing adventure. Possibly travel as that is fairly easy. No stolen photos from google, no harping to the reader about songs I like, no pretending to have knowledge of karaoke, instagram, etc.

I'll try starting this soon and hopefully I'll be right back with some results...
